Garden Broccoli Varieties: Vegetable Broccoli SeedsBroccoli is a cool weather crop growing best between the daytime temperatures of 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Broccoli will tolerate temperatures down into the 20’s but will bolt and go to flower when temperatures reach the 80’s. Broccoli is most often started from seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before transplanting your broccoli plants outside. As with all plants started from seed indoors you’ll need to harden the broccoli seedlings off by placing them outside in gradually increasing intervals for a week or so. When the broccoli florets are dark green compact and about the size of a match stick head is the time to harvest the heads. Cut at an angle to prevent water pooling in the middle of the stem and rotting it. The broccoli harvest is not over for these green flower buds, as long as the weather stays cool the plant will begin sending up side shoots that can be harvested for weeks after.
