Lavender is best known for its beautiful purple flowers. It makes a great ornamental plant. The perennial plant grows 3-5 feet tall with leaves. Lavender can also be used for herbal teas and adding fresh scents to almost anything.

Planting:Lavender germination can be slow and difficult. Seeds with very hard seed coats should be soaked overnight in warm water. Start seeds in pots or plants containing a lightweight sterilized soil mix. Cover twice their thickness with soil.
Germination: Seeds take 14 to 21 days to sprout.
Transplant: As seedlings appear, gradually expose to direct light. When lavender is large enough to handle, transplant to pots. After spring frosts transplant to garden 12 to 36” apart.
Soil and Light:Keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.
