The Burpee Early hybrid is one of the earliest crenshaws available and does well in cooler climates that might kill other melons. The vigorous vines produce the yellow-green fruits with their delicious pink flesh. Fruits average up to 14 lbs and can be harvested faster sooner than most other crenshaws. Perfect for the gardener working in a short growing season.

Planting instructions:Plant Crenshaw seeds only after soil has warmed. Placing seeds in cold soil may cause them to rot. Best in fertile soil. Crenshaw seeds may be started inside a few weeks before last frost for a head start. Keep weeds away with mulch or straw.
Care:Be sure Burpee Early Crenshaw plant stays well watered through warm times. Elevate melons or place barrier between melons and damp ground to protect them.
Harvesting: Cut crenshaws off vine carefully with a knife to prevent damage.

Collecting Seed: Wait until the vine attached to Burpee crenshaw has dried, then remove fruit and set it aside for 3 weeks. Cut open crenshaw and scoop out seeds from center.

Gardening Tips
Many factors can affect the germination and growth of your garden or flower seeds. Try some of these suggestions to improve your seeds' chance of success:- Sometimes some seeds should soak in water for 4-6 hours before planting seeds in ground.
- Store seeds in cool dry location to prevent seeds germinating prematurely.
- Water freshly planted seeds or newly transplanted plants heavily.
- Use mulch around base of developing plants to prevent weeds.
- Compost your grasses, leaves etc before trying to grow vegetables or flowers that need rich soil.
